Woodland Critters by Hukkanaama Woodland Critters by Hukkanaama
Have I mentioned how much I love drawing animals with natural anatomy moving and doing things humans do? There's something in it that I find really charming and I prefer it over more drastically anthropomorphized animals any day. Seems kinda silly I don't draw these kind of animals more often, really. I guess I've just been too caught up in horror and mythical creatures to remember that this is fun, too.

I also tested a new painting method where I first colored the silhouette with a single color and then painted the real colors on top of it. I really like the results and I'm thinking I could test how this works for a full blown painting.

I really appreciate the natural anatomy here. Animals themselves have such wonderful forms and shapes that I often dislike "humanizing" them too much.

I also love the style and coloring. Very adorable :)

Thank you for researching your animals before you drew them. XD So many people give rats/mice paws... they have hands!!

Heh, well I used to own rats so I've gotten a pretty good look at the little rodent feet. :D

I prefer that kindna animals too!
I think it looks cuter and more suited for storytelling in some way. Probably because I grew up with stories and illustrations like that.
It really looks great!

Oh yes, some of my favourite stories as a little kid had these kind of animals as well and I think that's definitely the reason I still like them. Peter Rabbit was my favorite animated tv-series back then. :D

I adored Peter Rabbit as a child! Still one of my favourite tv shows and books. :)

Don't worry; you're not the only one. I dislike the big, huge, muscular things most people draw. I prefer just animals in human-ish poses, still keeping true to real anatomy. I applaud your work.

Thank you!
Yeah, I have nothing against the more human-like anthros, but they do lack some of the visual appeal of a more fairy-tale animal.

You're very quite welcome.~ :D
It normally doesn't matter to me either. It's just when they're naked... you might as well be drawing naked people. O___O
